Thursday 16 January 2025 Workshop for Parents: Anxiety and Low Mood This is a 1 ½ hr workshop facilitated by Young Somerset. It is an opportunity to meet other parents and share common concerns. We talk about the signs and symptoms of anxiety and low mood, some do’s and don’ts and share hints and tips on how to support your child. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.

Friday 3 January 2025 Haygrove School Christmas Concert 2024 The school’s end-of-term Christmas concert was a resounding success, showcasing an extraordinary standard of musical talent. The event brought together students, staff, and families for an evening filled with festive cheer and outstanding performances including beautiful singing, the string orchestra, woodwind, brass and our student bands. There truly was something for everyone!

Wednesday 11 December 2024 Year 11 Ice Skating Trip On Monday evening, 123 Year 11 students enjoyed a fantastic festive evening of ice skating and Christmas shopping, marking one of the highlights of their school year. It was also a great way to celebrate finishing their HSCEs and an opportunity to relax after a busy time of revision and hard work.

Monday 18 November 2024 HYPE Dance Showcase: Dance Through the Ages The latest HYPE (Haygrove Youth Performance in Education) Dance Showcase presented two wonderful shows from our talented school dancers, themed "Dance Through the Ages." These performances highlighted the incredible dedication and enthusiasm of our students. Regular exposure to the performing arts significantly raises self-esteem and self-confidence among our students. The high aspirations and expectations demanded by the exact nature of performance open doors for students to achieve extremely high standards across various subject areas. The discipline of dance instils commitment, self-belief, creativity and self-expressions. It is also very social and fun.

Monday 21 October 2024 Year 7 showing off their cooking skills The Year 7s at Haygrove School have just got to the end of their first half term of cooking in DT Food. They finished with a pasta salad - highly nutritious, beautifully colourful and with perfect al dente pasta. Delicious!

Monday 21 October 2024 Wonderful evening at Year 10 and 11 Music Recital Our students and Music Department put on a wonderful evening of music at the Autumn Senior Recital last Friday. The evening soiree was a warm cabaret-style concert attended by family and friends of our Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE Music Students.

Tuesday 25 June 2024 Haygrove Sports Leaders support Spaxton Primary School Our Year 9 sports leaders were fantastic supporting Spaxton with their sorts day last week. They displayed wonderful confidence and community spirit to help out the Spaxton students with their different sporting events. It was absolutely brilliant to watch them working so well with the younger students. They were an absolute credit to themselves and to Haygrove. Mrs Rood, Headteacher at Spaxton School, said, “Thank you so much to Mr Cook and the Year 9 students for helping to organise the games at our sports day. Their help and support is greatly appreciated and the morning would not have been possible without them. They were a credit to Haygrove - so helpful and polite. This is such a lovely way for our two schools to collaborate!” Well done everyone!

Performances are taking place in the Assembly Hall next week: Wed 26th, Thurs 27th or Fri 28th June.Time 6pm start.Prices: Adults £6, Child £4.Our students and staff have dedicated many hours to rehearsing and are very excited to share their performances with you all. To get a ticket, students can collect a booking form from Drama or Student Services, and then take the completed form to Finance (students will need to go at breaktime or lunchtime.) Thursday 25 April 2024 Haygrove's Bronze DofE Practice Expedition April 2024 On Friday evening the students put up tents in windy conditions, cooked a meal together and dealt with a cold night. After a frosty start on Saturday, students completed a challenging walking day in sunny weather on the Quantock Hills above Holford. The students represented themselves, their families and the school well. It was wonderful to receive an email from the campsite about the conduct of our students during their camp.

Tuesday 23 April 2024 Inter Haygrove Football Match - Gray Athletic vs North United On Wednesday last week we had an inter Haygrove match - Gray Athletic vs North United. The boys got the game absolutely spot on - it was a competitive match played in exactly the right spirit and a fantastic way to round off their Year 11 football season. The game ended 5-3 to North United but in reality, it was a much closer game than this and either team could have won.

Thursday 18 April 2024 Haygrove's Partnership with the Yew Wah Programme Our students have really enjoyed spending time with the Chinese students from the Yew Wah Programme this term visiting them at Knowle Hall and accompanying them on various fieldtrips. Our link with Yew Wah International Education Foundation, established in 2007, continues to go from strength to strength. It was also a pleasure to welcome our first visit of students into school this year.

Thursday 18 April 2024 Barcelona Trip 2024 Our students had a brilliant time exploring Barcelona and practicing their Spanish. The architecture was very impressive and it was great to experience the culture. The students were fantastic ambassadors for the school and really made the most of this opportunity.

Monday 15 April 2024 Battle of the Bands 2024 Our performers, tech team and Music Department worked really hard to deliver a fantastic evening of entertainment. Tuesday 9 April 2024 Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day at Haygrove Mrs Brazier and her team of students organised a Odd Socks Day and Cake Sale to mark World Down Syndrome Day. They raised a fantastic £419.37! Thank you to everyone who contributed cakes and goodies.

Thursday 4 April 2024 Year 8 Geography Trip to Lyme Regis It was an absolute pleasure to take out Year 8 to Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast for a geography fieldwork experience. Students learned about the £20 million sea defences installed at the Dorset seaside town and investigated the impact of tourism on the area.

Monday 18 March 2024 Well done to our U13 indoor cricketers! A huge well done to our U13 indoor cricket team who competed at the County Finals in Taunton on Friday. Despite not getting the result that we had hoped for in our games, the boys showed great resilience and team spirit throughout the day. Over twenty schools entered this competition, so for our team to finish 4th in Somerset is absolutely brilliant and something for they should all feel incredibly proud of.

Thursday 8 February 2024 Brilliant Club - Scholars Programme A group of Year 9 students have participated in a project called the Scholars Programme run by the Brilliant Club, a charity set up to increase the number of students from different backgrounds progressing to highly-selective universities. The Scholars Programme was delivered in the autumn term by a PhD tutor from the University of Bath and the students studied a ‘supra-curricular’ topic related to the PhD tutor’s area of expertise.

Wednesday 7 February 2024 Sport at Haygrove - Spring Term 1 We have had a great half term for sport at Haygrove. The PE staff have thoroughly enjoyed having clubs and fixtures back on, with a real sense of enthusiasm for the extra-curricular programme. Wednesday 13 December 2023 Year 11 Wellbeing Trip to Clarks Village We really hope our Year 11s enjoyed their wellbeing trip to Clarks Village on Thursday, where they had an afternoon of ice skating and shopping in preparation for the festive season. The trip was a perfect opportunity for students to unwind and have fun with their peers. It was really nice to see nearly 100 Year 11 students having fun, helping each other and showing so much resilience.

Tuesday 12 December 2023 Farewell to our Haygrove Campus and thank you to BTC This page is awaiting As we prepare for our Year 10s' return back to the main school site, it has been wonderful to see their friendships strengthen and the year group adapt to their new school campus so brilliantly. We will be here to support our students transition back to the main school site, but hopefully there is also excitement about returning to the normal school routine and an increase in the number of extra-curricular activities. Haygrove School are extremely grateful to Bridgwater and Taunton College for hosting our students over the past few months and making us feel so welcome. The additional benefit of using the specialist college space was a real boost to our students. content

Monday 27 November 2023 Former Haygrove Student embarks on Naval career Able Rate (AB) Rhys Bennett is heading for a career at sea after successfully completing his basic training in the Royal Navy and has joined the Senior Service in September and has completed his 10-weeks Initial Naval Training at HMS Raleigh in Torpoint, Cornwall.

Wednesday 15 November 2023 Haygrove School celebrates students with awards evening We welcomed last year’s Year 11s back to school for a very special GCSE Awards Evening to celebrate their landmark success from last academic year. The students’ hard work and determination meant Haygrove School secured the top GCSE results in Somerset for students receiving a Grade 4 and above and also a Grade 5 and above in both English and Maths, an exceptional achievement.

Monday 2 October 2023 Year 9 Geography Lyme Regis Trip It was a pleasure to be able to take Year 9 Geographers on a trip to Lyme Regis to investigate the coastal defences and the influence of tourism on the town. The weather held out for us and we hope students found it an interesting experience to see geographical features first-hand.

Friday 18 August 2023 Update for Haygrove School Haygrove School and Quantock Education Trust have been engaging with the Department for Education (DfE) over the past 12 months to ensure our main school building is fully fit for purpose and of the quality our students and staff deserve. The DfE has overall responsibility for the main building, which was completed in October 2020, and has undertaken technical investigations over the past few weeks to determine its long-term viability.

Wednesday 12 July 2023 Moment of Remembrance on Battlefields Trip Our Year 9 & Year 10 students took part in a moving ceremony of remembrance at the Menin Gate in Ypres during their Battlefields Trip. Our students, along with Mr Williams, laid a wreath from Haygrove School in honour of Gerald Bishop, who attended our school when it was Dr Morgan's and fought in WWI. Gerald Bishop served in both Gallipoli and Passchendaele where he died in 1917. He is named on the Menin Gate, a memorial to 55,000 missing soldiers who died in the Ypres Salient for whom there is no known grave.

Monday 3 July 2023 Our Year 11s celebrate Prom in style! Our Year 11s had a fabulous prom this week at Oake Manor Golf Club. The students arrived in true style and a variety of transportation methods including motorbikes, boats, horses, limos, luxury cars and space hoppers!

Thursday 29 June 2023 Well done to our U13 cricketers Congratulations to our U13 Cricket Team who reached the County Cup Final held at Wembdon Cricket Club on Monday. Unfortunately, we came out on the wrong side of the game and ended up as runners up against a strong Churchill team. We are incredibly proud of the whole team who performed brilliantly to reach the final and are now officially the second best state school team in the county. Well done!

They will be joining in our life at Haygrove until 4th July and attending lessons alongside our students. We are really enjoying getting to know our visitors and helping them settle into school life. This fantastic programme is a unique opportunity for both sets of students to learn more about each other's lives.

Tuesday 6 June 2023 Our latest Duke of Edinburgh Trips Twenty-three Year 10 students walked from Dulverton to Exford to Porlock to Dunster Beach over three days. The students dealt with the demands of the expedition and the weather representing the school very well. Thank you to Mrs West who drove half of the group to the start at Dulverton and to Mr Owen and Mr Tracey who worked hard throughout the three days keeping the groups on track, together and focused.

Wednesday 17 May 2023 Great attendance for exam readiness sessions Well done to our Year 11 students who have started their exams so brilliantly this week. We are very impressed with the number of students attending the exam readiness sessions, which are happening early in the mornings before their exams as well as a power hour before lunch for exams in the afternoon. We can see that this is helping to calm and focus our students. We are so proud of you all!

Thursday 4 May 2023 Well done Year 10 English Literature students Well done to our Year 10 Early Entry English Literature students who recently attended two intensive revision sessions in preparation for their upcoming exams. The attendance has been brilliant, and our students showed excellent concentration and determination. The sessions included two mock exam guided practices followed by revision techniques led by Mrs Stitfall and the English Department supported by SLT, the site team, and ICT who went to extraordinary lengths to make the day work for these students. We know that all this hard work now will pay off hugely for them and we truly hope they all feel proud of themselves. Thank you to all parents and staff who have supported and encouraged our students.

Tuesday 2 May 2023 PGL Netball Trip On Friday 28th - Sunday 30th April twenty students across Year 9, 10 and 11 attended the PGL Netball Camp at Liddington Hall, Swindon. The weekend was filled with netball and a variety of exciting outdoor, adventurous activities including zip wires, abseiling, climbing and the eagerly anticipated giant swing.

He will be at school on a regular basis to work with our pupils. He’s no stranger to Haygrove, as he recently took part in our school production. Wednesday 15 March 2023 Haygrove School receive top marks for Careers Programme Haygrove School has been recognised for their Careers Programme led by Claire Morgan for achieving the highest marks available with 100% scores across the eight Gatsby benchmarks. These were developed on behalf of the Gatsby Foundation by Sir John Holman. They define what world-class careers provision in education looks like and provide a clear framework for organising the careers provision at schools or colleges.
