Silver DofE Award Practice Expedition - May 2024

Year 10 students enjoyed three challenging days walking on Exmoor during their Silver DofE award practice expedition.

The first day involved navigating through difficult terrain from Malmesmead to Alderman's Barrow and groups started to learn some aspects of micro-navigation. On Saturday groups navigated though a hilly route around Dunkery Beacon and back to the campsite at Woodcocks Ley farm. It was a hot, sunny day and students walked a long route.

After an early morning pack-up on the third day, students walked down to Porlock, through Bossington and up to Selworthy Beacon. From here they followed the South West Coast Path and finished in Minehead, close to the harbour.

All students walked very well and demonstrated good camp craft throughout the expedition. The students were supported by Miss Knott, Mr Tracey, Mrs West, Mr Hellyer and Mr Owen. Thank you to all staff who volunteered their time and made the expedition such a success.

They are looking forward to deciding on the location of their assessment expedition so that they can start choosing and planning their walking routes.
