Our links with China continue to go from strength to strength. Established by a visit to the International Conference for Education in Beijing in 2008, prior to the Beijing Olympics, our partnership with the Yew Wah Foundation goes from strength to strength. This year we will welcome over 175 staff and students from Yew Wah’s Shanghai and Yantai Schools.
Our partnership with Yew Wah is unique. We believe our relationship with the Yew Wah schools offers real opportunities to enhance teaching and learning for our own students, as well as the young people who visit us from China, who integrate into our lessons and benefit from a programme of extra-curricular activities that they do not experience at their own schools in China. Our Year 9 and Year 10 students volunteer to act as ‘buddies’ to help the Chinese youngsters settle into Haygrove School and, once they have found their feet, both nationalities collaborate on a team building day and the visiting students also deliver classroom sessions so that our students benefit from their input to our curriculum.
The Yew Wah-Haygrove International Friendship Centre
As a celebration of our work, we opened the Yew Wah-Haygrove International Friendship Centre in November 2013, as a dedicated suite of classrooms, designed to build upon our existing work and allow us to continue to develop our unique link.
Visit to Shanghai
In 2014 and 2016 Haygrove students travelled nearly 12,000 miles on an adventure of a lifetime when they took part in our residential trip to Shanghai in China.
"We feel blessed to have established connection with Haygrove School."
